The 2mm plate is ideal for creaming spinach or serving up liver pâté. The 3mm plate is suggested when grinding hamburger meat, fish, tartar and mashed potatoes. Use the 6mm grinding plate when working to medium grind sausages or for use with vegetables, fruits and cheese. The 8mm plate is ideal for coarse grind sausages, chili, hard cheeses and dry fruits. The 14mm blade (typically used with a 2-blade knife) is recommended for cubing bacon or making chili and stew.
